Ratings and recommendations

These recommendations are based on the issues most important to REALTORS® and in alignment with the CTAR Public Policy Guide: protecting private property rights, making housing affordable, improving our quality of life and supporting economic development. About the Candidate Screening Committee and process
The CTAR Candidate Screening Committee is made up of REALTOR® members who volunteer their time to evaluate candidates running for public office across the Charleston region. The committee's goal is to identify and support candidates who understand and align with the CTAR Public Policy Guide and our Guiding Principles, and our commitment to protecting private property rights, promoting housing opportunities and strengthening our communities.
How candidates are reviewed
Each election season, committee members sit down with candidates running for local office. They listen, ask tough questions and weigh each candidate's views against our Public Policy Guide. Reviews draw on questionnaires, in-depth interviews and, for incumbents, their full voting records.
Nonpartisan by design
CTAR takes pride in keeping this process completely nonpartisan. It is not about party politics. It is about finding candidates who understand and support the issues that matter most to REALTORS® and to the communities we serve, from private property rights to housing families can afford.
About the rating system
The rating system is a roadmap to voting in support of REALTOR® issues. It is not meant to mandate that REALTORS® vote for specific candidates. It gives our members and affiliates a list of recommended candidates who best represent the interests of REALTORS® and the real estate community.
